A Cool Social Networking Site

In the United States alone there are more than 50 million adults living with some type of physical or mental disability. For years, our stereotypes and lack of knowledge and understanding about their disabilities have forced these individuals to stay away from being active members in their individual communities.

Social networking for the first time in years, has opened up a whole new world for these individuals. While conducting some research I came across a social networking site called Disaboom whose main purpose is to provide a social networking site mainly for individuals who are living with some type of disability.

After graduating from medical school, J. Glen House, founded Disaboom. After becoming a quadriplegic at the young age of 20 (from a skiing accident), House founded Disaboom as a resource for others who are going through some of the same struggles as he was and continues to go through. Disaboom is dedicated to providing individuals with disabilities with an interactive online community where they can get the help, resources, and support they need. The site also aims to serve not only those with disabilities but their families and caregivers as well.

The site provides a forum for individuals to interact socially over the internet. It also provides daily living resources, medical news, career advice, dating resources and travel tips. Recently one of Disaboom greatest achievements was acquiring Lovebyrd, which is a dating site for disabled singles. Currently there are more than 180 million people who flock to this site to take advantage of the resources it provides.
